| My Biography: |
Manuel Cervera was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1965.
He studied Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He developed his career in the field of Engineering for fifteen years and started to develop his first paintings on 2001. His first group show took place on 2003. In his work, he invites the viewer to reflect upon non accepted, as well as accepted, human and sexual relationships. It is also an invitation to reflect on the established patterns of beauty and their consequences. "With my images I try to capture something which lies in the collective unconscious, and also to channel that. I think that to show what we all carry within ourselves, which in most cases is repressed, should be the real purpose of an artist. For me, as an artist, it is helpful to liberate myself. I think art has the capacity of healing.
However, in order to heal we sometimes have to dig deeper into the wound. I do not believe in the established patterns of beauty. I believe women in my work are “brutally” attractive. I want people to realize this. They are women. They are not just meat. I would like my work to be self-explanatory.
I do not want to do that myself
